Gonna try the spray paint on water dip for my Screaming eagle I bought... So a few questions, Yes I've read through the search bar but am wondering how everyone else's have come out?
1. Can I use a gloss spray paint? I'm wanting to do it black and bright green.
2. What is the temperature of the water supposed to be?
3. Any tips would be awesome!

Have seen it done with Testors model paint or special paint made for that purpose that craft stores sell, the swirl paint dip was the thing that was popular on here years ago...

Basically a highschool/college kids hydrodip, WAY cheaper and they turn out pretty cool, I've found out quite a bit about it but basically what you need is something deep enough to put the whole riser in (I'm going to use a brand new fish barrel:D) And put any OIL BASED spray paint in it, there is supposed to be a certain temperature for the water but I haven't figured it out yet. They turn out pretty cool! And you can do it to just about anything! The paint sits on top of the water and you push the riser down VERY slowly so the paint gets on it and then use a newspaper or towel to get the rest of the paint off the surface and pull it up quickly! I'm going to take a video when I do it and show you guys, first few times will be with something I don't care about messing up because I'm sure it'll take a bit to get the hang of it but I'll post a video or pictures!

Ya Water snake. Paint in water. I've not seen it with spray paint though.
looked it up last night the water temp was 75 degrees on the video I watched they had stripped the riser and laid down a good primer of the base color they wanted noticed he blew a clear trail before he pulled it up out of the water had about 4 colors in the water question I have is how does it hold up may depend on the base and etcher you use.

I done mine and I was pleased with the results. Do not use spray paint. Use Testers Enamel model car paint. Use 1.5 tablespoons of Borax detergent booster per gallon of water in your tank, water should be at 70 degrees. make sure that your piece has a nice thick base coat on it before you dip it and then make sure you out several coats of clear on it. Also make sure that you let it dry and harden for about 2 weeks before you attempt to reassemble it.

Thanks! So how did your arrows hold up?

Arrow didn't hold up very well. I just dipped it to test the solution. I highly suggest you do a couple test runs before you dip the bow! And every time that you do a test run you need to dump out the water and start over. Its time consuming but if you take your time it will be worth it.

that looks good what base color was on before you dipped and what colors was in the water??
Black base coat with black and green swirl. I would really like to try it with lime green base coat and lime green and white swirl

Sounds good! I'm going to practice on little things first, maybe I'll try to dip my reel seat and muzzy cover first before I do the bow, I'm going to wait for winter to roll around because I ain't going to wait 2 weeks!

Thats a good idea. I done mine in early spring and I only waited a few days....You could see alot of little nicks and dings of where I scratched it when putting it together. But after the finish hardened it was very durable.
