For all you guys that have built your own rig from scratch. Where is the best place to get all the aluminum to start out. Any tips from you guys that have been there done that I'm all ears.

99.9% of everyone on here would agree if your budget would allow you to build a boat with a 72" bottom then you would be much happier. Lots more stable. I'm not sure what the price difference would be, but maybe someone else could chime in on that.

When I priced the materials for my boat with an 84 inch bottom .190 and .125 sides all the bracing and sheeting it was around 4200 bucks. That was for 240 inch sheets for the bottom and sides and also all the that stock.

I wanna say that when Clint was pricing a 60" vs 72", it was less than $300 difference. It's insignificant in the end, but it is more than just a wider bottom. Don't forget the transom, decking, floor, T bar, etc.... Also, 20' long (really about 19-6) was the most efficient use of material from a financial standpoint.

I've never built my own boat but I don't understand why you'd build something you can get from a manufacturer. By that I mean something 60" wide, especially 18' long. It's your money but if it was me and I was going to the trouble and expense I'd be looking at a 72" minimum, probably a little wider.

When i ordered my material, I told Frank that I wanted an 1872, with 30" sides, 3/16 bottom, front and rear deck, walkarounds, and I was putting a 150hp outboard on it. Thats it. A day later I had a quote for everything I would need. My total from them, including shipping was $3500. It would have been even less but i had chines pressed in bottom that added another $100.

Im sure theres still gonna be a few pieces extra ill need to finish it up, but it should all be small stuff that i can get locally.

If you live that far away, id definitely ask about shipping cost if you live in a place where a box truck can park while you unload (notice I said BOX truck, not flatbed) and you have equipment available to unload 20'x6' sheets from said box truck. If i remember right it was either 13 or 15hrs away for me, and after i did some rough estimating on cost to drive there, it only cost me about $100 more to have it delivered. Well worth it to me.

Good luck

Oh ya, and only talk to frank. If hes not there, either wait on hold, or call back till he is. Everyone else there, especially Jeremy, couldnt give a single s**t about your money. Frank was a pleasure to work with, and everyone else there totally sucks.
