So what about kickers in the river? Haven't heard anyone talk about that scenario?
Well let me tell Yall about silver carp, if you got any motor running they betting you to death LOL! And big head do not like light. It a just a different type of bowfishing.

Oh great, now the power companies will start protesting bowfishing because hot air balloons are getting caught in power lines over lakes.
Lol.. Naw!! Mine will have a tx6000 force field around It!!! Lol

We shoot bigheads and silvers each year in our Airboat. I have never understood the whole have to go stealth ninja on them to kill them. We shoot a good many down here and just about all of us have fans on boats and 99% use generators to power their lights! I think it is different locations, waterways that dictate the method of shooting.

I would still rather be in 4-6 inches of water shooting dink gar though.

Kicker rig wouldn't last a weekend down here I don't believe unless all you shot was suspended gar.

Here is what it comes down too guys....No boat is ideal for every situation...If all you ever shoot is your local waters and local fish then shoot what best for them...Odds are tho if you travel don't be suprised if the fishing 3 states away is different. Be it conditions, water, or even just the same fish species acting different. Take asians for example...Tailwater asians seem suicidle compared to Ohio river asians...I have no doubts at certain times you could shoot a buncha asians in the tailwaters running a fan and probably even your lights....The ohio river tho...Other than a occasional one you run up on the bank and shoot you are gonna need a troller and spotlight.....Down south in LA we have gotten into silvers before running the fan and gennys that couldn't of had a care in the world...Its all just different.
On my boat I built a fan cause I was just tired of troller BS. I was constantly burning em up and breaking **** and having to deal with batteries. I freaking snapped and built a big fan on my boat cause I was tired of troller BS.Best thing I have ever done. I can cover so much more water with a fan compared to a troller and don't hafta worry bout weeds and other BS.Just not having to deal with batteries is awesome..I have alot more power to go faster and push thru stuff...But I do have a quick release mount to throw a troller on the boat for rolling gar and for bigheads and for whatever day shooting we end up doing.
If I could afford it I'd love to have a airboat...but mosta the time I don't need a full blow airboat...So my fan will do for now.

it all depends on what your shooting. bigheads and silvers on the river no fan. gar, carp, grassys in large numbers fan is the only way. we used a troller first half of the season, then put the fan on WOW what a diffrence, but were number shooters. we just kept burning trollers up plus the extra 300+ pounds in batterys and the 2 days of charging batterys. now its hook up and go just have 2 batterys to keep charged. we shoot lakes and the ohio river. fan does well on both.

We fish where the fish are and they are really shallow and a fan is SOOOO much easier to use than a troller. Shoot over some grass, you go and dont have to pull up a troller. It does not mean a troller will always lose to the fan when fishing a tournament though.

If and when i ever get rid of my airboat, i am going back to a fan boat 18x72 with a 4 foot deck, with 1,500 watt halogens and a 6,500 watt genny and a 12-20 horse fan....

Well i have a fan rig and im buying a 70lb riptide tomorow and ill have the best of both world's. Ive been in the creeks and rivers to much Saying Chit i wish i had a troller, but i freaking love the fan in the lake can't beat it. Unless you have an airboat, but i ain't rich enough to afford the gas that comes with it..............lol

Pretty much what Jake said. The other thing is if you shoot for fun a troller will do fine if you do your home work and know how to use a troller you can do just as well at what YOU like to do. Just ask Mike Bommer or Alen Yedor. Another thing is the guys that have fans or airboats are the ones that are a little more serious OR have a little more money so they go the extra mile. You have the guys that say "If we had a fan or Airboat we could do that" as in win and they cant. I have seen it in the last ten years and when I started I said it. I will be glad when everyone has fans and airboats then no more excuses. The other thing is if your only gonna shoot bigheads on the Ohio river.....keep your troller and dont spend the money you gonna shoot the lakes for dink gar or Buffs running or grassys in the deep grass get a fan or an airboat. Just my take but what do I know.lol

Dude...I just spit my adult beverage all over the place...there is no comparison between a troller and a fan rig...simple as that. I don't know what kinda water ur fishing but I say to hell with a troller on a lake...but river fishing is a different story.
thats for sure!!!

I watched two kids whoop 17 teams "I think it was 17" three of them were airboats several were fan rigs, but they were in a troller rig and there was only two of them so yea a troller and two 17 year old kids can whoop seasoned "Airboat captains " and hard ass fan rig guys...but you wont catch me reaching down to pull weeds out of a trolling motor prop..and I'll be damned if I ever worry about "charged " batteries.

i feel like i can cover more ground and better ground with the fan...since i've seen dustins.......that little fan is a BEAST
