I have a 6x8 raised deck. I previously had 8- 500w halos and 2- 150hps. I switched to LED because I needed a new genny and wanted to try silent fishing vs buying a new genny. I now have 10 27w LEDs. Took them out for the first time last night.
Like most other LED reviews I was not disappointed. The only areas I see for adjustment are adding a couple more lights to the front corners as the LEDs don't have the fringe overlap as halos or HPS and the diameter of the lighted area around my boat is roughly 5 yds smaller. So there were a couple of times when I could have seen the fish better at the outer edge of the lights in front of the boat with the old setup (too far to effectively shoot). The color of the light is more like a MH which in my experience doesn't penetrate as well and yes I have fished over MH's so if I had the option I would prefer a more yellow light but this is far from a gripe. I was more than pleased with the lights, we had no trouble seeing fish. Btw, the lake is a fairly clear lake but was fairly stained due to recent rains.
In conclusion, I will be ordering 4 more lights to add to my viewing area. Silent is amazing! It was dead calm and quiet last night and the fish were generally in the back of pockets. I would kill the trolling motor and drift in and we would be right on top of them and they were not near as spooky as previously observed. Overall we killed about 20 commons and buffs and shot like crap. Not bad for the first trip of the year.
