Hey guys, i do a lot of filming but not much editing and was wondering if you knew of good programs or programs that you would recommend for editing video footage? Right now all of my video editing is pretty basic but I'd like to learn and get advanced with it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Kole

Sony Vegas is really great, and it's not to difficult to learn. And there is plenty of videos on YouTube to teach you the things you can't figure out.

all we use is sony vegas pro 10 and its great because you can all ways add stuff using newBlueFX

If you really intend to learn more advanced editing, then "cheap" and "user friendly" do not necessarily go along with that. You need to be looking at the pro versions of Vegas, Avid, or Adobe Premier, etc. Editing is one of those things that tons of people can do with such widely available programs these days, but something that can be unbelievably complicated as well. So many factors come into play with higher levels of editing including computer limitations (hardware, memory, and/or software), computer conflicts with the editing software, and on and on. What seems like a simple task within a clip can lead to many days of frustration some times.

you aint lying

If you need cheap then try Corel Video Studio pro I use it for quick edits and it is really user friendly and has slow mo , reverse and several other effects that are easy to learn. I also have CS6 master collection and sony vegas pro. For the average joe looking to do some editing from time to time I would seriously look at Corel. If you want to spend hours tweaking video and get real serious then go for Adobe Premier/After Effects or Sony Vegas.

Go Mac and dont look back. Get the final cut pro if you are serious. If you use another cheaper program then the transition is a little more harsh. Anything editing is easier on a Mac. I wasted 1700.00 on a pc and some cheap software before I saw the light. I wished I would have listened and it would have saved me a nice chunk. Good luck and post up some video when you get going.

Chuck, could you go into any more detail about why you didn't like the PC and why you like the Mac so much more? I need to get a new rig to do some editing soon.

Justin, my pc would lock up constantly . I bought a monster Hp at the time and it was supposed to be able to handle everything. There are a hundred different settings that must coincide with your editing software and Pc, like Robin said. If one is off the whole project will get jacked up. The MAc will just cruise thru the Hd stuff and pump out the files. Rendering is very fast and it is the industry standard. FCP is a tough program to figure out. I can barely turn it on..lol However, I never have to set and wait on my computer. My laptop was only $400 more and I never have to worry about it crashing or getting viruses. There are a ton of youtube videos to show you different tools in FCP. I get amazed watching Casey edit our stuff, I only hope I can do it like him one day. If you are going to sink the money go with the Mac. Everyone told me and I didn't listen. I just don't want to see someone else loose the money like I did, I could use it for a new camera..lol

there is your problem with the PC, you bought an HP.... they truley suck you can only run one program at a time on them they hate multi tasking. Go with a dell and you will be happy and pocket the other 1000 you would have spent on a MAC. Dont get me wrong I know for a fact that a MAC is a smoother less stressful machine but it is alot more up front. You can get a decent Dell (like an Inspiron laptop) and all your software for around $1000 you would have to put about $800 more with that to get a MAC and then you need proprietary software. but if you got the cash then the mac is the way to go.
