Alright I found the perfect boat, my cousin has it and has used it for years, he doesn't have a title for it he just regesters an old boat then puts the new stickers on this boat( illegal I know) he is wanting to sell it, and I want it bad. I have been all over the boat and it does not have a vin plate anywhere and does look like a manufactured boat. Just curious if I could do some customizing to it and register it as a homemade boat? Any one done this or have any insight for me?

What state are you in? Most states will want a full copy of reciepts for materials used and will send a warden out to inspect it.

And they know real fast whats up, they look for sizes of the materials used and be sure everything adds up.

Then when the warden inspects it hell be able to tell real fast it wasn't a freshly built boat.

That being said, you'll prolly need to just apply for a lost title and file that way and go through that process

Yup when I registered mine I had to give em materials receipts and have the warden inspect it..
Gotta be a vin plate on it somewhere.. Call parks and wildlife they can walk u through the list title process.. Not hard just takes time

Not for sure has no name anywhere, no vin, not even a rating plate that shows the max number of people or motor rating. 18ft long 72 in wide. Was gonna completely strip it down to bare aluminum and redo the whole inside them try to get it reg as homemade but don't know I'f it will work now.

Ohio is simple. You need to have a receipt of purchase/bill of sale notarized, then you take it to get it inspected. After it is inspected by the DOW, they register a new serial number, new reg numbers, and you are good to go.

Take it to Arkansas and register it they will register anything, trust me i bought a stolen boat it AR once. I did not know it was stolen until 2 years later when i tried to register it in MO and they said it was stolen out of Lousiana. Lucky for me the guy never did claim the boat cause if he would of i would have been out off a boat and the money i paid for it. I think insurance already paid him for it so he was not looking for it anymore but i was nervous for along time just wondering if i was going to be screwed over by a theif and AR cause they failed to run the VIN before they licensed it.

In Mississippi you just call the local game warden out he inspects it an gives you a number an the number he gives you is the vin number an you can register it takes about ten min it's pretty easy

Just called Texas Parks and Wildlife they said all I have to do is bring it to my local tpwl office present a bill of sale, and a statement showing they owner never had it reg. or used it on public waters, they will have a game warden check it for a vin number. If no vin is found he will issue a new vin, title, and tx numbers. That seems easy enough

bring the boat with you to the TPWD office....he will issue the new number and youre on your way. Its not that bad. its not as hard as people make it to be...they probably havent gone thru the steps before.
