The other thing is these batteries "might" be rated at a 20 hour rate as most marine batteries are, but some cheat and use a 25 hour rate for example. but in most applications it will be a 4-8 hour discharge time, which lowers the actual Amp Hours available. People also forget that if your batteries are in a hot location, not ventilated, a battery that operated 5 degrees C above the rated norm, capacity is halved.

And you need to be careful to not charge too many 12v paralleled as it will exceed the capacity of the "bank" and not fully charge the batts. The on-board chargers only put out around 10 amps per bank.

Minn Kota 4 bank. Highest output they make (don't remember the number off hand).
15 amps per bank....most others are 5 and 10

IMHO guys should consider the versatility of the converters,I plug mine into the wall at home for use as chargers and have the capability to run a Genny if a long night is planned.....works very well

Ok tell me about these converters as a charger. 4 batteries on 24v. Which converter should I look at and how much are they

I would go with two, two bank chargers with at least 10 amps per bank. Your alternator is not going to charge them unless you run it 8 to 10 hours without the lights on. All you are doing is keeping up with the lights.

This answer gets my vote. Your alternator is powering the lights, but not keeping the batteries charged.
With volt meter with fan/alternator off, record volts at battery(ies) 24 volt output conn.,turn fan/ alternator on record volts, run for while record volts should be same minimum or higher if actually charging with correct size convertors or alternator. With all the responses it sounds like you have it figured out where the problem may be.

Original post was for run times or lack of run times on batteries, with 4 batteries in parrallel 24 volt bank.Which would be charge fully at start and run till dead. Now is charge or keep charged by fan alternator running while on water hunting/fishing,and upgrade to125 amp alternator. If looking to keep charged or run with fan alternator cant you cut some weight and only run 2 batteries in one 24 volt bank

Ok sounds good its Probly gonna be a to small alternator it looks like. I've 4 fresh batteries and gonna try this again. The only reason I run 4 batteries is when were fishing these waters i use the big motor so much I just don't want to have to turn the fan on to run the lights. As far as why I don't go back to my old setup of 4-250 mh, 3-400 mh, and 10- halos is beacause light coverage and penatration is not an issue in crystal clear water. So no need for the wasted energy and problems with people. Noise or light bleeding.

Ok test has begun with new batteries and nothing running as a charge I want to see what the initial last will be. I got the batteries and made sure they were all fully charged and didn't hook anything but the lights up. Started at 620.
