I'm still new to bowfishing so there's a lot still left to learn but I'm currently stumped on why only the muzzy/zebco 808/ti20 are the only ones that work for bowfishing reels. Given there's many reels outs there I was wondering if any one has did a test recently that still proves those are the only 3 that will work. Why wouldn't open reels work?

That is a good question....

As for open faced, very dangerous, its the way the reel comes off the spool.

Had to use an open faced reel one night because I broke two Ti20s. Scary, lost a few arrows since the line would just fall off the spool and get caught on stuff

well that answers the open face reels. Another reason why I ask is because last time I ordered the ti20 I was told they are no longer being made. I had to find one at walmart :( if this is true that only leaves two choices. less options is never good for any sport.

other reels...RhinoRSC5,SR70 Bear(where you can find em)
SR70 also sold as a SRC are great I have 6 of them. Blew the line break out of one one night took it apart shook out the pieces put it back together and shot it the rest of the night.

You sure?I have never heard of SRC,the SR70...has always been just that....the Rhino RSC5 and 3 are made by Zebco and the 5 is as bullet proof as the SR

yep 270
Looking at 2 right now.
They work great as long as you:( 1) use a rod or (2) hose clamp the cap on.(it will pop off when uneven pressure is applied). And you get to watch it twirl around in the water while you hand wind the line back on the spool. Lol

 Yep....we used "sticky chrome",to hold the caps on!!

Ah,hah...gotcha Knew Spinit made em,never heard em called SRC thanks Jeff.

I do use a rod. Never had any problem with the cap.

That's why we came up with the Muzzy XD reel, there was a need out there and we filled it!
