Neighbors near Table Rock Lake upset about bowfishing tournament
Neighbors argue boats created "noise pollution"

TABLE ROCK LAKE, Mo - Saturday's U.S. Open Bowfishing National Championship Tournament brought hundreds of anglers to the Branson area this past weekend, but some neighbors are saying the boats used in the tournament were too loud.

Some of the anglers drove fan boats which are illegal in Missouri because they violate noise pollution laws. The Missouri Highway Patrol's Water Division granted a one day exemption for the tournament which also extends to 24 hours before the tournament. Barbara Van Dusen says anglers were driving the boats past her house as late as 4 am.

Tournament organizers hope Table Rock Lake can host the event again in the future, but Van Dusen says they need to leave the fan boats at home. "We heard a noise that sounded like it was miles away, I thought it was a tornado it sounded so loud, it kind of scared us, it came into our channel and then we noticed bright search lights coming up into our bedroom and across our homes, we were frightened really," says Van Dusen.

"We've got special lights and a lot of the boats have special fans to push them down the lake so it's going to be pretty loud, we're kind of asking everybody to work with us a little bit because of all these people we're bringing in and we hope this thing could move on to be an annual event," says tournament organizer John Paul Morris.

The Highway Patrol says it was unaware that fan boats were going to be in the tournament. They say if organizers try to get a permit for the tournament in the future, they will tell them no fan boats.
