im using a 5hp. wish it was bigger but ill give it go, Itll have a fan as soon as i get a motor and prop anyway. just want to try the kicker first since i have a motor. Anyway, Im mounting to my transom as well but if i need to adjust, i will just weld up a mount to fit my needs. In his case. he trying to mount it to skiff which prolly has a lip on the transom so he needs a mount. An adjustable mount with different sets of hole to raise and lower the kicker would be easy to fab up too. .

And Hotrod, what did you mean about the 9.9 not being fast? I would think a 9.9 would get you chasing a fish pretty good.

Crafty, At the time the 9.9 was the only outboard we had on the boat. Chasing fish was not the problem.... It was the L O N G trip back to the dock at the end of the night!

I by no means ment that a 15hp would not work I dont think you can ever have to much power!!! I am building my setup by modeling it off of "PBrad's" 1860 G3 Kicker, Heck he was running a 25hp Merc for the kicker and a 60hp Merc jet as the primary motor!

Iam in (and have been) in the process of building one...plan to finish over Christmas break....With the fancy, high dollar cable, the plan is to attach the cable to the mount and not the boat as I have a couple of extra feet to run a proud loop at the transom...I'll update you as I complete the project
I have this same bracket and I'm running into the same problem. Where would you mount the cable to the mount?

I actually have a little beefier mount than the one in the pic...the Garelick 4stroke deal of up to 15hp I think....But the plan is to use something similar to channel on top of the mount but under the motor with uprights welded to it for the hold down fittings which I believe is referred to as a bulkhead style.

Thanks! I'll try that and see what I can come up with

Do a search for jpeaters kicker build he did. We just copied it.....i dont know what the name of the thing is but i call it a multiplier. We went with a standard airboat steering cable from floral city and hooked to out multiplier doohickie and have great steering left and right. If u cant find it let me know and i can get some pics this weekend.
Please post pics of the MULTIPLIER when you get a chance. Thanks

Virgils been after me to get some better pics since the rig is at my house. Finally got on board with this thread, let me know if you need pics of anything, I'll try to get some! Like he said earlier, Jpeater was the brainchild on this, that guy can fabricate some awesome stuff!

OK thanks....I'll probably get in touch with you then...

Can you fill me in on the MULTIPLIER. We went to a push pull with 7" travel and we run out of the travel on the cable before the motor turns completly.

If you have a 7'' travel cable, there is no way you will need a bell crank/ multiplier setup. You just don't have your cable hooked up in the right spot on the motor.

Looking to redo my steering to a push pull only issue I am seeing is theis dadgum mount I got. This is the only way I have found to get the kicker on my Carolina Skiff and be able to raise it up and tilt it forward to run down lake. Anyone done the push pull steering with a mount on the boat like this. Looks like it would bend/mess up the steering cable when you tilted the engine forward.
Thanks

You need a 25'' shaft kicker. Then you can mount it solid to the back of the boat and still be able to tilt your motor up for travel.

If you are planning on using the push-pull cable system just make sure to mount the cable to the bracket and not to the boat and it will not matter what position the outboard is in for the cable to work well.
In theory that works. But there is usually not enough room for the kicker steering cable to avoid the big motor unless your dealing with a super wide boat. Sometimes you can do that if the big motor is on a jack plate to give you a little more room to route the cable.
