II notice the top fish has a lateral line which suckers don't have so guess I'm wrong on that might be a buff after all

Top is 100% buff bottom is a quilback we kill buffs like that all the time just a simple little buff.

Top could be either river carpsucker or smallmouth buffalo. They look similar but have a slight variation at the back curve of the gill plate. Another easier way to tell is the carpsucker will have a small bump or nipple on its mouth and the buffalo will not. Second fish looks like a quillback.

Top is for sure a buff and bottom is a quillback. We have tons on those little dink buffs here in Alabama.
