I have not had a problem with the tje + f&d, and I don't use a lock washer.

Put the nut mostly on the rod save one turn.
Thread the rod until in to about 30-45 degrees before top dead center.
Tighten the nut, turn rod halfway, tighten nut again, then rod the last few degrees. Do it in increments and it tightens up solidly and finished vertically. The last bit turning the rod to tdc should be very tight. It it ends up a little past vertical then loosen it and do it again.

I started doing this and had less problems, but still come loose from time to time.
It almost needs 2 nuts and a Teflon washer. Set the rod straight, tighten compression nut down against Teflon washer so it won't dig in to the seat cap and tighted the chit out of it. a second jam nut to hold the pressure and keep it from backing off. All theory, haven't tried this.

I've never had a problem with mine. Had them on the F&D and also on the BFE reel seat.

Never had this issue... I crank it down super tight on my reel with the nut all the way up against the weld, then tighten it to about 30degrees counterclockwise of vertical, then crank the nut and it tightens the cap the last bit and i tighten until it aligns the rod with the reel. Never had any of mine come loose

I use a standard stainless steel lock washer in between

Thats very kind of you. Sounds like I have a few options to try first. I think the washer might be the ticket. It looks like there are a handful of other guys on her with the same problem you might be able to "help" haha

Just fish off the left side of the boat and reel in all the fish to your left that should keep it tight .

That's what I've been doing but I'm sick of it. I missed a shot on a big fish last time when I had the wrench in my hand tightening it. I REALLY cranked it down yesterday so I'll see how that works and I'll pick up a SS lock washer next time I'm at the hardware store.

Both of them products are built like tanks, just keep cranking on em. I never even touch the nut. I'll have the occasional gator gar flip the rod but them jokers will tear any thing up lol

That's what I had to do with a little RPM rod, that sucked. A big fish or hangup on the right, and the rod would back out. The threads were boogered somehow, I think. Lockwasher didn't help. I finally gave in and drilled and tapped crosswise and pinned it.

When I got Tim's shoot through last year, I was glad to see it tightened up properly and didn't need any of that BS.

when you thread into alum. use good quality lock tite but also have the rod snug you,ll have to heat the alum to be able to back it out found out the hard way lock tited my poundge bolts one time had the devil getting it loose.
