I have been told that float pods will not only help offset larger amounts of weight on the stern of the boat but also offer to the boat more stability. I have a " modified v" bottom boat. Would float pods help to stabilize this boat?
You said stability issue but never saw what size boat you had?
well, i think the diet is out of the question for me being only 195lbs.... but i could definitely ask my teammates to skinny up. lolBest way I know is build ur 1648 just how I want it. Then put it in a 2072. That should stable if up quite a bit. But on a serious note. There's no way to make it more sable other than going on a diet.
With a 1648 I would just be real still and not move around alot...our tracker is 17.5 x 48 across bottom and not bad with 2-3 people, has a 50 on back doesn't draft to bad, you just don't make wild unexpected moves, watch weight in boat and fishes ok. What size engine you have now and what are you planning on going to with " much larger " on the new motor?1648

Thats cool, post up pics of this build. I have a small jon boat and thought of doing the same but have to many projects as it is. Good luck with your build. Wouldn't float pods possibly get in the way of the jet when trying to turn?have always just had yamaha 15hp, but installing 950cc, 130hp jet ski motor. 15hp weighs 118lbs, jet ski motor will be about 300lbs. have never seen this done around here. going to be very different!
I have been taking lots of pics and will definitely post the while build when finished. Pods wool not be in the way due to the fact that the pump housing will not be flush with the transom, we are sliding it father back in order to get intake as far back as possible, just in case we would ever have to reach over the back of the boat to get weeds out. Doing it like this should set the jet about a foot or so behind the transom, which is almost identical to how it would set if we were to just put an outboard jet drive on. Way more power and way less money doing it this way though. And completely awesome, of course. LOLThats cool, post up pics of this build. is that your first jet jon build? did you use bottom of jetski hull? and how close are you to being able to drop it in the water? pics would be awesome!!!I am just now finishing up a 1448 with a 700cc Yamaha jet ski motor.
This is my first one. All I lack is welding a drain plug in it and putting some rivets back in it. Pm me your email and I will get you some pictures of it. No I didn't use the hull.
Did you have any extra weight in the back of the boat that you were trying to offset by putting the pods on?they ruined my 1648 when I put my pods on. they really helped get the rear end up but it plowed water sooooooo bad it was scary to drive plus i had no steering control at all. They were made by a well known pod maker looked beautiful but they were the devil so be careful is all I have to say
