well when you look at old Topo maps, the name of the lake is d i c k lake. I guess fisherman decided that name was not too cool, so they named it a more appropriate name. If you were to ever see it, you would know exactly why. Maybe one day I will slip by the boat ramp and take some pictures.... LOL

I figure since its an oxbow of the Yazoo River, back in the day when the lake was cut off from the river channel, the people who lived on the banks got d i c k e d on their riverfront property! LOL


I am still waiting to hear what MDWFP comes up with for the official measurements. This really kind of sucks for bowfisherman, because our great state has two record catagories 1. Rod n Reel 2. Every other method. SO yea, bowfisherman have to try and beat out this monstor to get a "state record" fish...

However, some of the information in the story about this fish is false. The fish was taken from DUMP LAKE in Yazoo County, not Chotard.

Dump lake has some absolute awesome bowfishing in it too, crystal clear waters except after major rains.....fish a plenty! Not a stump in the whole place to be found!

8ft. 5 1/8inches
327 lbs.
Girth - 48 inches

The official weight was posted above 327 pounds. I am just relaying the message and am in no official capacity though.

There has not been a press release but there will be probably tomorrow so check www.MDWFP.com . My buddy who happens to also be the head of the MDWFP Alligator program was at the official weighing and measuring of the gar, he posted the stats that I posted here on facebook along with 5 other pictures.

The fish was donated to the MS Museum of Natural Science where it will be on display after it's mounted!
