Like when I got some time I was gona buy two to compare…like see what one had stronger barbs…and which ones tip dulled quicker…shoot it into a brick and just bend the barbs with some pliers until they broke.
Like why don't you just shoot fish with them Brady? Jk
I've never shot the Gene Davis points but the old Stingers sucked.Haven't tried the newer ones yet but the barbs do look a lot better now than they did then.
The plus to the Stingers is you have four barbs to break off.The new ones do seem to hold up much better than the old ones though. On the stingers(4 barb)I cut two barbs in half....really helps "things"
I've never used a Gene Davis, but Loved the performance of the Wee-Sting 4 barb on the soft bigheads and silvers. I changed from this tip when we started slamming the small gar, though. The tips that need to be removed to get a fish off are too much work on fast action gar!
I have only used Lil stingers or cajuns. I actually like the Lil stingers better, they seem to hold up fine for what we use them for, like mentioned above you need to tighten the tip every couple shots as it will loosen on its own.
love the gene davis 2 barbs. I have a few that I use whenever i go to texoma and shoot into rocks all day. little file in my console takes the mushroom out after the end of the day (if you even need to) and it keeps on trucking. I have bent the barbs on one tip compleatly up numerious times and both barbs are still there...
Gene Davis 2 barbs do hold up great, in NE oklahoma one will go for a trip or two before they need to be touched up, and for that a grinder and a sharpening stone do the trick
Ever shot a fish without realizing you lost your gene davis? I think I knocked a fish out when I hit him in the head with no tip. he started floating sideways. Pretty funny.
True...the Gene Davis is much harder and holds up better if you're shooting rocks. The Lil Stinger is a little more resistant to rust though. As far as the barbs go, I haven't been able to tell much difference....they will bend down fairly easily on both. The Gene Davis has longer barbs which=more holding power but create more leverage for bending.
The idea behind the long flexible barbs on the GD is that they flex or bend flat out of the way on entry making a smaller hole. Then spring back open making it harder to pull out... That being said, we pull out of a lot of buffs and carp with them this time of year. :cf:
Exactly ^^^^
what I was getting at is even a tip designed to hold onto soft fish have pull outs this time of year.
The GD are a great tip, I like them way better than Muzzy. They may not be as quick getting a fish off but just a all around better tip. IMO
guy that got me into bowfishing has used GD tips for a long time. He actually clips the barbs back about even with the end of the threads. Says they don't bend back as bad. We have a very good stick rate on fish if you hit them solid. Right now the buffs are soft as butter so if you get a gut shot you normally get an airbag or guts back if it pulls out. I don't think any barb would hold in that soft meat though. If you get a solid shot into real meat on a fish they rarely come off though.
