Ok this may be a dumb question but I'm ok with gettin some chit if I can get some answers with it. I've read on here about guys using google earth to scout out new lakes when you guys are lookin over a lake are you just lookin for coves and then just checking them out when you get to lake or am I missing something ?

that is what I do... you can also see the shallow water in the lakes and rivers or look for the large amounts of green areas and look at what time of year the picture has been taken... also a great tool for waterfowl hunting when looking for wetlands...

Clean Coves (not full of trees) , seeing what banks flow into the water and are not bluffs (deeper edges). Lot of times can see shallows and points that are shallow.

If I say have a strong south wind, I may look to see what marina is closest to coves I think I can fish and stay out of the wind.

I look for other boat launches/ramps that I may not know about. I also sometimes print, mark spots I think look interesting and them take it with me because on the water it looks different and you have a birdseye perspective.

Check out creek arms, etc.

Also I use it for hunting to mark stands, see pinch points, print and laminate and put in truck. Had a entire folder on a 1000 acre lease once.

x2 You can find alot of backwater that has openings that aren't easy to see. I also use it to find clearer water. Alot of the water near us is muddy so you can see where clear water is flowing in.

I use google earth to internet scout, but when Im on the water I use GPS Kit on Iphone and when I find a spot with fish I plot a point and save it to my GPS Kit..... but now I have stepped up to the big plate, I just upgraded to a Hummingbird with Navionics lake maps that shows the depths of the topographical images of the lakes... Also you can go on Navionics.com and click on products, then scroll down to Webapp and you can view any lakes in topographic view.... Its good stuff!!!
