got in the stand around 5:15p and set up shortly after on a field with quarter corn and the rest sohrgum. i wasn't expecting much with the heat but with school and all i take what i can get. before i even had the arrow in my wisker bisquit, i had deer everywhere! they were all around me and i couldnt move. i was set up on the corn side and they were using it to cross the field to the otherside, stoping for acorns as they staged up. between the corn field and in the woods, i had to have seen atleast 30 deer within 45 minutes.
so im standing there just in aww from the mayhem and and i hear what almost sounds like a growl behind me, then i hear thuds, then a 4 pointer and a basket 6 bust out of the woods and into the field and stop. i was thinking there is no way those 2 made that noise. then i hear it again but with a grunt! instantly i knew it was a good deer so im watching the woods and here he comes lumbering through the hollies stomping and snorting like a darn water buffalo. i was hoping he was going to follow the little bucks path to chase them off but he turned parrallel with the field and worked his way toward me leaving me with only a few options for shots.
my stand was faced to the field so i had my back to at this time. he came in range quartering to so i was hoping he would turn and give me a shot through one of the holes in the trees. i was up about 25 feet to the end of my pull rope and he stopped at 18 yards with a perfect view of him in a sight window so i drew and slipped my 85 grain thunderhead right down the middle of his shoulder blades darn near cutting the heart in half and completly severing the aorta from the primaries. he ran 15 yards and fell over without even a twitch.
