The last couple trips I have been on in a river I frequent here in central Virginia, we have stumbled across a few grass carp. This caught me off guard, as I have never seen grass carp in these waters before. I did a little research and couldn't find anything online about them being stocked in any particular river or if these are the triploid (sterile) version. Anyone else in my area (or anywhere near me for that matter) been running into grassies lately? The regulations specifically state common carp in the bowfishing section, but nowhere on the site is any distinction made between the various species of carp in the waters here.

I don't know about in your area but around here when it gets really hot the grass carp come up to the shallows to spawn. Even if they are not sterile they will go through a spawn. This is the time of year when we go out and shoot several grass carp in one trip. In most cases and states grass carp can be taken in any numbers because they are in fact considered a invasive species.

Just shoot and release lol Is there a lot of states that don't allow you to shoot grass carp. I thought there was only very few states that didn't allow it.
