hey guys im making a hawiian sling and im not sure what kind of bands or how strong of bands to use. any ideas? thanks.

I used 9/16 bands on mine. They Were spear gun bands. I built one with 4 legs for shooting big groupers and snapper in the Bahamas. It had about a 60 pound pull. Plenty of power for big fish. Too much for the littler fish. Just shot right through them. I have made 5 or 6 so if you have any questions let me know

im not sure if its a true hawaiian sling but i saw it on youtube the way im gonna make mine is i have an ol flippin stick that i cut the cork off and then cut to size then i put an innerloc pro point on the end and i wanna put the bands on the other end so i can grab a 1/4 maybe 1/2 up the length and when i see a fish i wanna shoot just let go. any good cheap places to buy the tubing? thanks.

have you used it anywhere in cali? i wanna try it in the private lake i shoot. so i can swim in the sunken trees where the carp like to hang out and spear em. gonne order the tubing tomorrow and as soon as it gets here im going.

whats a hawiian sling?

from what i understand its a stick with a point at one end and surgical tubing on the other. you put the tubing around your wrist i think and grab the spear as far up as you can under the tension of the bands then when you see a fish you let go of the spear.

With a pole spear you have the band around your wrist so you always are holding onto the spear. With a Hawaiian sling you shoot the shaft and once it is shot there is no more connection to you. I built a float line for my Hawaiian sling for shooting lingcod in Washington and carp. Never tried it on carp but worked halfway decent for lings and sea bass. A float line is a line that goes from the spear to a float on the surface

Google images Hawaiian sling. It's like a Slingshot that shoots a spear. You get a little more range but need to hit the fish good or watch where they go so you can retrieve the spear and fish.

You can also go to a hardware store and get tubbing. Just look for the stuff with the thickest wall and smallest hole in the middle.


It sounds like you are making a pole spear and you can buy pre made pole spear tubing also
