that 140 would prolly move it about the same speed as the 90 but the 90 would prolly get up on plane faster. Go big as you can on hp, jets are slow off the start but u dont have to worry about a prop or a foot hitting anything. I can hit a grass patch on mine and it will cause it to come off plane cause it gets grass in there. Will push through mud like nobodies business. Little rocks and sand are the devil, impellers have to be change every so often supposedly but i havent done it yet. I got a 115hp yamaha four stroke but with the jet makes it an 80 on my 1872 and it moves bout 30-35

Good advice there, have a 115/80 merc jet on my skiff, its awesome only need about 6" on plane but grass will definitely bog you down. I won't notice it while idling around then when I get on it to go ill hear it. Trim up remove the grass and keep going

You will lose b/w 30 and 40 percent. They run great but like everyone has said, they are tough to run thru the grass and weeds. if you are on plane it will run super shallow but that depends on your weight distribution. Jets are very finicky when it comes to weight. I ran them for years on the Rio Grande and Pecos but when I started hunting the big water, it didnt work well cause of the waves and cavitation. if I hunted in East Texas where it was stumpy, thats all i'd run. You can smoke over submerged grass and millfoil and hydrilla but when you set it down is when you have the problem. If you dont have enough room to get completely up on step you will suck up grass

I run a 250 jet sometimes it sucks and other times I wouldn't want n e thing else. It will run in 4" of water for a good distance and dry for a short distance. It doesn't like grass or leaves at all. Yes the pump is easy to clean but it is frustrating.
