Thats cool . I've never encountered one with big fins . All the koi I've shot have just had regular fins . From what I've read this is a plain ol' common who has a genetic issu making its fins continue to grow . Maybe it ain't real rare but it's a first for me. And I hadn't ever seen pics of too many .
They have to be pretty rare or I would have at least seen one by now. I couldn't tell ya' how many I've looked at but I can tell ya' that it would take a train to haul 'em all.

I've got one about 20 to 25 pounds in the freezer. Just lookin for the right taxidermist. I've seen several come off of toledo. Caughtca white bass likecthat too. But apparently its a hypertrophic growth disorder found in sunfish and minnow species that causes the fins to grow at a rapid rate

Thats awesome! I saw one with similar fins in a creek close to home once, but they weren't near that big. Just walked down to see if it was worth shooting and he cruised by me at about 3 feet. Sprinted back to the truck to get the bow but he was gone :headbang:

Me and JJ Hayes shot one like this one night.very cool fish.

Nice fish Jake. That's one of the great things about bowfishing, there's always one more cool fish to add to your wish list.

I'm bringing this up to ask this question.....Does anyone actually know a buyer who would be interested in buying those alive . I can definitely get some alive if there is a market.

The guys in Idaho shoot quite a few of these...Butterfly Carp. Super Cool!!! It is a common carp that has a dominant gene mutations for "fancy fins". The great part of this is that if you find one, there usually is more. Some guys actually won't shoot these during the spawn because the want the gene to become more prolific.

Nice work!!! Now find his family :)

They're really common in one spot I have access to . I was just standing on the bank looking at 4 at once . The one pictured is on I shot a few yrs ago . Since then I've found them to be really common in this spot

its a very dominate gene... 8 years ago was our 1st... now I can garantee you will shoot at them on my boat in a river... last week we shot 14 of them and know I'm being told of a farm pond that is loaded with them and might be the source of how they got into our river... I still think they are a super cool fish...
