All my experience with funky fuel lines, fuel, pick up, sucking air, ect. led to a bogging when trying to throttle hard or not hitting max rpm's. It seems as though a lot of people have seen a similar problem with fuel and fuel accessory issues. Maybe if you are certain it is not the prop or lower unit you can try getting a known good remote tank, like a 3 or 6 gallon, and put good fuel and oil in it and try running on that....If it runs like a champ switch over to your old fuel system and see how it does. If it aint none of that you may have some kind of wierd problem with your ignition or advance where you are turning rpms and not making torque. Kinda wierd....If it was my boat I would definately had went after the prop as the culprit. Unless it was prop and it somehow resiezed or washed the grease out.....wierd

I have an early 80's evinrude that did the same thing. Idled fine, would throttle up in neutral but would lose power and sputter under a slight load. Acted like it was dropping cylinders and missing. Ended up being the ignition power pack. Not sure if your '72 has this system or not but if it does it could be the problem. But you need to check the basics everyone else has recommended first.

Guys i can't thank you enough for all the input....i have checked the prop and pretty sure its not that....i took the cover off and looked at linkages and they looked fine. Tomorrow im going to start with the basics like spark plug, checking the carb, and changing the fuel filter. But you know it did seem like it was having a little trouble trying to start so im beginning to think towards the powerpack.

its the hub in the prop garunteed, leave it on the trailer put some muffs on it and i bet it runs fine, the prop is slipping when it gets a load on it. this is the EXACT same thing we just went through with my buddies boat. buy a new prop and get after em tonight
