I picked this up yesterday from a guy who never used it or tried to make it run, does anybody know who might have originally built this thing? the wires that look like they were a quick connect made out of 110 plugs for the ignition switch, so i don't have a key to try and crank it and i need to figure out how i need to wire one and maybe where i can find an ignition i could make work. also it looks like the motor has a fuel pump built in, do i need another fuel pump or will this one work? its a kohler command pro 18 hp. also does anybody have any pics of how to hook up a throttle cable on a kohler?

Strip out all the wires that look like they were rigged up. Just guessing but you will probably need a 12v hot(on a switch) to the starter solenoid(this will be a small wire only to "flip" the solenoid) and then another 12v hot(thick wire)from the batt to the solenoid as well as a thick wire between the solenoid and the starter. You will also need a wire to the coils which will ground out the engine and kill it when it's circuit is closed(aka when the motor is running it is an open switch). There may be a fuel cutoff solenoid going to the carb bowl. It will allow fuel to flow into the bowl when it has 12v power to it.

As for the fuel pump it is probably just a mechanical pump and won't have the power to pull the gas. Get an electric pump and mount it low by the gas tank.

Should have tech support if have model numbers and s/n# of your motor to get wiring diagram and maybe get you correct key switch, likely best bet to try that

Like all the others said out with the old in with the new. I would take it to a small engine guy and see if you can tag along so that you will know how its all works. That way when your down on the water you will be able to fix it. If your like me once you see it and figure it all out its simple. Ready diagrams and instructions forget it..lol

Page 34 startes showing diagrams, there is like 3 different ones bases on which model you have.

Yeah i bought a used motor and had start fresh with the wiring it took me a couple weeks of getting to know the motor and what different parts are and there fucntion before i finaly figured it out. Had no idea what an oil sentry was or a carb solnoid before i started. Im know engine guru so took me a while to figure it out. If you can get better pictures of the motor i may be able to help you determine what wiring diagram you need to reference. I also attached a picture of wiring to the ignition switch itself which also helped me out. I just ordered a kohler key switch off ebay but i believe you can get one at an auto part store i think it is a pretty standard magneto key switch but someone else may know more.
