I got a airboat with 2 batts, 12 volt.. I got some 24 volt LED lights ..can I hook them up 24 volt while running the boat, it 12 volt....Im not sure on this one..Or what do it do??
As far as I know the 12volt alternator will not charge the 24 volt systemI am not OBG, but yes you can hook up both 24V and 12V at the same time. 12V will come off positive and negative of each individual battery, while the 24V will hook from positive on battery #1 the negative of battery #1 hooks to the positive of battery #2 and the negative of battery #2 is your negative leg for the 24 V.
That's true. If he connects all the electrical for the boat on 1 battery, adds another battery in series for the lights then he could run a 24 volt one wire alternator to connected to the batteries in series and the alternator would keep both batteries hot.As far as I know the 12volt alternator will not charge the 24 volt system
It ain't gonna work cause you have the 2 batteries hooked up in parallel---when you put the jumper on to make 24 volts you will have created a direct short and chit is gonna melt. If you run the airboat on one battery only then you can put another battery in series to make 24 volts for your lights but only one battery will charge off the alternator.I know how to hook it up, but will it hurt anything?? the boat should charge the batts but I dont want to burn anything up..
You don't need a new pulley-just replace the existing alternator with a 24 volt one wire alternator. Hook all the boat electrical to the battery that you catch the negative for your 24 volt series from and the alternator hot wire to the positive on the other battery. So a 24V alternator and a new crank pulley with an extra groove for another belt and one wire will make it work?
Got ya...I had been drink when I read / typed that...You don't need a new pulley-just replace the existing alternator with a 24 volt one wire alternator.
