We all know how much fun one can have on a bowfishing trip. This year was no different. With spring on its way it is always nice to get back on the water for some well needed bowfishing. As luck would have it, this past winter was a little more mild for us up north folks. So I decided to head out bowfishing a little earlier than normal. After a few calls to my friend Tim, we decided to make the long, grueling drive to warmer weather and do some bowfishing.
The week prior to the trip was spent getting all my gear ready, tuning my Osprey’s to ensure they were both shooting perfectly and also to build a few more arrows and setup a few more Muzzy spincast reels. Four days before we left for our trip, I was able to organize my boat, put a new fuel pump in for the fan, and make sure everything worked on the boat and test the fan and outboard. Everything seemed flawless, and anticipation was high.
Setting up reels
The night of March 7th, Tim drove from his work to my house and arrived at 3:30am. After a few hours of sleep we were up at 8am getting stuff loading into his truck and went to grab my boat. This trip we decided to take Tim’s new Toyota instead of my truck…it pulled my boat very well.
After an all day drive, with countless gas station stops....we arrived where we were shooting with 35 min until darkness. Perfect, right??? WRONG!! Things started to go downhill fast. We got everything loaded into the boat for the night. Launched the boat and I decided that I would start the fan and generator to make sure everything worked before we drove to our first shooting area…and the fan wouldn’t start. Why does bad luck still seem to follow me???? I thought I had enough of that last fall. Water was smooth as glass and we couldn’t get going!!! I tried everything I could think of to try and locate the problem, moving wires, checking connections, grounds, etc. So we eventually decided to race to a town to try and rescue this night. We need to bowfish!!!!!!! I bought a brand new battery, hoping that would fix the issue. We got all the way back to the boat and that didn’t help.
Gotta love sunsets while bowfishing.
Tim's Osprey in the sunset.
It was one rough night. So after all that we did what any bowfisherman would do....we bowfished anyway by me driving the outboard with Tim shooting up front and when Tim saw a bunch I would run up and shoot. We shot for an hour like this and put 17 carp in the boat. I was frustrated at this time, and decided to call it a night so we could try and fix things in the morning.
Big fish Tim shot the first night while I drove the outboard and he shot.
