I have a 18hp Briggs’s and Stratton v-twin, I made mine idle down to about 2-3 mph on a idle but if I go wide open it will move the boat about 10-15mph, I made rudders on the back of my boat and run it off of a pulley system and a long throttle cable.

Just finished ordering all the parts I need to get this fan build going!
Vanguard 35HP
60" 3 blade Powerfin
Arrowprop reduction
Progressive automations Actuator, relay, DC controller and joystick
rubber motor mounts
Bearings, shafts, chain, sprockets
tiny tach

Can get everything else locally. Will get back home on the 15th and should have everything I need to get started. I want to thank you guys who posted for your help. Ill update with picks as I progress and I'm sure I will have another question or two. Appreciate it guys.

Looking like you are very organized with this build. Gonna be interesting to see the progress of this one. Are you going with an enclosed or open shroud around your fan? The reason I ask is because there has been talk about weather or not enclosing the shroud has some bearing on fan tip noise. Good luck with build.

Ya I'm trying to have everything thought out and ready for the build. Im only home 7 to 10 days a month so time is valuable. I'm going with a open shroud. I have seen the talk of closed end shrouds making the fan much louder. Not sure if its accurate but I don't want to experiment with that right off the bat. I was thinking 1" to 2" of clearance between shroud and tip, then about 4" of shroud out past the front of blades. Does this sound about right or should I go more or less?

I have it started and its going pretty well. Definitely a huge project to take on but it has been fun and frustrating at the same time if that makes sense. We are probably going on 10-15 30 packs of beer so far into this build and more to come im sure. A few things I think could have been done better but plan to use it this summer and maybe make changes next winter. ill send some picts as soon as I figure out how

Not sure why it posted pictures side ways. Still have much to do but its coming along. New 140 watt lights just came in for the front so about to get that done and new converter. Then back to wiring up key switch and rigging up fuel system.

Just and FYI. I put a 200Lbs actuator on this build and it worked fine until windy days, the wind would slowly push in the actuator and move the fan position. made it hard to drive and control in the wind. I changed it out with a 400Lbs actuator and it holds perfectly even in extremely high wind.

No changes really besides some minor tweaking. It works great just takes some time to get used to steering it. If I had to change anything I would have built it a little lighter in the frame but being it was the first build I didn't want it to not be stout enough to handle the abuse. I can't complain.
