quick question about guns...

My son (in the Marine Corp) wants to get his girl a bolt action rifle for target shooting and deer hunting (maybe elk also) she is 5'5 120 and loves the 30/30 but he is thinking the 308 would be better. What do y'all think a good choice of rifle is for her. Don't want to break the bank but don't want cheap either.

I own a lot of rifles, almost all the calibers mentioned on here and then some, I find myself going back to my 7-08 when I want to go have a blast shooting a gun. Great shooters.

Your thoughts and info is really great. I personally don't have a lot of time behind different rifles just because of being in the city and all, but my son is all about things that go boom so this will be great stuff for him! Keep it coming:tu:

I love my .308. My ex shot it all the time with no problem. I also like the variance of loads you can find for the caliber. There's a load for varmints all the way to large game for it!
