im in the same situation, have an 1860 redoing it, im thinkn 2 foot raised deck, shoot flush like a Champ, but we are trying to get BIG fish not every fish, was told that all these 40 and 50 pounders that we get now is going to amount to nothing after i raise the deck. bigger fish bounce faster, so we will be able to see the 60 and 70 pounders now!!! see further and i can put the lights under it, im thinkn it sounds good to raise!!

Last summer I had a 1860 that had a raised deck then in mid summer I sold that boat and got a 2072 I built a flush deck on it. So I've seen both pros and cons... I shoot better on a flush deck, light glare is not that bad at all... And I have no problem with day time shooing. On a raised deck you have room to put things, easy access to wires. But harder to clime up and down. I like the flush deck and won't go back.
Tim, even though you went flush, isn't your deck, now, close to being the same distance from the water that your raised deck on the 1860 was, due to having taller sides on the 2072?

Can anyone who has shot off both flush and raised (preferably off boats with the same side height) comment on whether or not you have to judge your shots (arrow kicking up when it enters water) less or not off the raised? Just seems like your shots would be more straight down from the raised. (not trying to hijack thread, just think this might or might not be an important selling point on raised over flush or vice versa)

had both own the same boat seem like thee raised u could see alitle better durning the day . if your bows tuned there aint much diff in shooting off of ether. id go just enough to get the lights under the deck and thats it. best of both worlds .

exactly....the only advantage is higher you have not as much glare during the day,I have shot that way for so long I am always on my tip toes on a flush deck

Have had both, on the same boat. Day time fishing a raised deck makes a little bit of difference, Night time it doesn'take a difference (in seeing fish better) shooting dink fish (10-15 inch gar) at night I'd rather have a flush deck. Me Personaly it makes it easier. That 2 foot + difference on hitting something the size of a hammer handle makes a HUGE difference to me at least. Those fish float about 2 inches under water and sometimes right next to the boat so bending down and being 1 foot from a fish or being 3 feet from a fish makes a big difference, at least to me and I know a buch of other people on here. Shooting gator gar or big buffs off a raised deck is just as easy to shoot but when you have a 60-70 lb buff or a 150 lb gator gar that you are trying to get arrows in to get on board a flush deck is 3 million times easier. Fighting a fish, holding a bow, nuecing a gator gar or gaffig a big buff is a PAIN IN THE ASS from 2 feet up and those fish don't go where you want em to you just kinda take what you can get as far as landing them. The bugs does make a difference and lights under deck help cut bugs in your face but that don't really bother me. As far as glare I had 400 w hps on mine and under deck or over it made no difference on glare at all. The least glare I've ever seen is a airboat style light rail and it made a huge difference so if you're looking At doing this for glare only I'd look Ito that option. All in all what I prefer is a boat with 28-30 inch sides and a flush deck with walk arounds. I think for me Personaly that's the best of both worlds. Just my $ .02

I have a raised deck. 15" above my 20" sides with three guys it sinks down a couple inches so call it 23 inches above the water. I like it cause that's what I'm used to. I have shot off flush decks and I don't get as many in the boat (shooting thru more water on longer shots due to angle). You can get used to either. I'd say shoot off of both and see which one you prefer. Aaron makes some valid points on handling big fish but I'm just so used taking one step down I don't ever really notice it.

I'm clumsy and like beer.... But I agree shoot off both multiple times before you make up your mind. What you are used to makes a huge difference.
