I shoot jugs and been trying to find a cheap alternative to AMS slides or rings. Anyone have something they found that works? Also I am not going to spinners and tying to the back like most people are going to recommend been there done that. Had the same jug now 3 years and very happy.

Frog I hadn,t though about wing nuts they might speed up the process of making slides we build the nocks from a 3/8 round stock [long eared] and weight the front of the arrow where we attach the fish point they take the water very good.

We use 3/8 alum. round stock to build our own slides went to this when we began building our arrows from stainless [tempered] because the arrow was 5/32 in diam. and the nock was the stop for the slide.

We get the alum. 3/8 round at Lowes comes in 3 ft. stalks we usually get the 3/8 steel round in 3 ft. stalks there also we get the 5/16 cold roll at steel supply comes in 20 ft. stalks they will cut in half so you can haul.

I wouldn't waste the time-AMS slides are about the best possible solution. I've made em from all sorts of stuff-plastic, wing nuts, nuts, couplers, etc etc. Metal is a terrible option because it destroys the stop and the arrow. Plastic is best, and there's already a good slide on the market.

Making the slides out of the alum round takes several steps your best bet might be the proper steel wing nuts what size nut depends on your arrow shaft diam. will need to drill out the threads to the right size for your shaft size to where it will be loose enough to slide with out grit and mud jamming it on the shaft. Then drill the wings close to the barrel of the nut for the string size[400 lb. fast flite what I drill mine for] then grind the excess part of the wings off and polish on a wire grinder wheel do this you will have a tough slide. I usually tie a short loop out of 400 lb. fastflite then tie the 200 lb. line to that on the bows I use the smaller line on.

Orrrrrrrrrr.......you could just use the damn AMS slides! Imma genius!

Seriously-I'm the biggest tinkerer out there, and if I say it's not worth it...it's not worth it :headbang:

There are arrows that have to have custom made slides out of metal the 5/32 stainless with the nock as the stop for the slide I do use a rubber o-ring bumper but my tinkering is sure not for everyone but you would not believe how these arrows shoot they are trouble to make for sure!!

I sure wish I could find that stupid picture of the wire nut safty slide I was talking about. I bet I have spent 2 hours looking for it and can't find squat.

Snake is defiantly origional and thinks outside the box. He is the mad max of bowfishing. :) Most of us here build our own stuff and know the satisfaction it brings.

Thanks Frog for bringing my attention to the wing nuts and Rambo I think these will turn into some very tough slides will have to pick up some for the 5/16 shafts and the 5/32 stainless shafts I drilled in close to the barrel of the nut on the one I made and took off the wings down to the hole I drilled for the string and took the threads out of the nut and had a die grinder and even made a string grove across the nut!! fun to tinker!!
