From what I've gathered there expensive and it takes a lot of them to cover the area that a six normal lights cover but you can run silent unless you only want to fish for 4/5 hours a night or buy a bunch of batteries

Or run 50 watt 120 volt on a smaller gennie, and no more expensive than bulbs, digital ballast, caps and custom housings to go hps..my .02

i have both 250/400 hps on my boat with customs, and 50 watt cool white leds, BUT leds are on a big foot. Rarely use leds but its nice to be ready for both situations. Mainly got into the leds stricktly for bigheads and big grassies in a few areas that we need to be queit for many reasons... but from what i have seen the leds look good! but The hps or metal haliade just produce so much light. its crazy to not got with them because of the amount of options you could go with. you can really spend as much (digital ballast, custom housings) or as little (bay lights found pretty cheap on CL with mudpan housings which work very well). my .02 cents but with the economy its worth about .0025 cents. I know from this time last year LEDS have made leaps and bounds and im very curious to see whats on the horizion in a couple more years
