I tie to the back have for as long as I been shooting 20 years I have never had a arrow come back at me I have a problem of always using my pinky pushing the button. When I picked up my bow for deer season I caught myself trying to push the button lol. Something that also helps even if it gets snagged up on something is keep your drag loose you can always tighten it down once you stick a fish.

A good day off shooting rolling gar I can break 4 arrows and maybe get my line cut twice. Some days are bad some days ain't that bad ... but your original post, don't expect to lose one arrow just because you are switching to a spinner

I really never lose/break off that many....
Maybe one or two a year on average, which probably half of those I'll jump in and get back.
Iirc last year I shot the same arrow the entire year!
A guy i use to shoot with broke off in a fish, as it took off I flung an arrow at it about half way across the River and hit it. Got the fish and arrow back :D

Speaking of retrieving shafts off the bottom, they always seem to be 6" to 2 feet from me being able to get them. Sometimes I use another shaft and snag the barbs on the other.

I say this because last week at Harbor Freight they had one of those grampa plastic squeeze and reach tools for $1.89 that will go in my boat. It will extend my reach an extra 2 feet and for a $1.89... one shaft and it pays for itself many times over.

We have a 7' push pole with a T handle, the "T" portion of the handle is hollow. You can easily slide the arrow into the handle and pluck it off the bottom with out getting wet.

thats crazy! i lose maybe one or two a year with an ams. i can buy ice, gas and launch fees for 20$. losing an arrow doubles the price of my trip. i couldnt afford to shoot a spinner.
I wear my arrows out before i lose them due to an issue with my reel. I shot the same arrow all year.

After watching videos of people bowfishing with those retriever reels and guys pulling the fish in by hand with line laying in a big pile all over the place, I went with a Zebco 808 reel. I broke off way too many arrows, so I went with 600# test line and in 2 years have not lost another arrow. Never had a arrow fly back at me because I set the drag back a little, the reel will break first. I don't make shots over 16 feet, and I rope my bow to the boat in case I hit a grassy as it yanks my canoe around.

you will get a mystery loop,if you shoot and video it,in slow motion, the string does some crazy things....including throwing itself in a knot around your string...it will happen.I have had it done countless times. Also a tangle on the rest or anything else....dude,your playing with fire.Personally I wouldnt allow you on my boat

You broke off too many arrows by using a POS reel. Tie on an arrow to a TI20 or Muzzy with 200lb line and it'll still be there at the end of the season. As others have said, what you are doing is dangerous and its only a matter of time before something goes bad.

600 lb line...you mean the gator cord that is a thick spectra/fast flight? I'm surprised that feeds well on a spinner. I also of the opinion that you are playing with fire because that stuff will not break.

Did you try 200ff and find it lacking just use the 600 because that is what was you could find when you started with a spinner?

....that is right as well....a big part of your arrow loss issue was that POS reel, those reels cost me dozens of arrows after Zebco moved to China,we couldnt get the old Spinnit reels, and pre Muzzy & TI's
