Well there is about to be a new player in the custom Lever Bow scene. I'm told they are going to put of 2 to 3 bows a week, built to your specs. Going to make that AE list seem antiquated.

I don't know Joe personally, but this right here seems like the primary reason he isn't cranking out more bows. If the shop that was machining risers does sub-par work, go down the street to another. There's literally thousands of machine shops in this country, and most would welcome the work. Buying a CNC mill and then trying to learn how to run it yourself.....and then actually running it yourself...is a monumental waste of time and money if your the sole proprietor and the sole employee.

What happens when his mill breaks down? Or his anodizing operation runs into issues? He's gotta take time from his schedule (which it sounds like he doesn't have already) and tend to repairs or issues.

He'd be smarter to contract the machining, dipping/anodizing, and strings out to various sources, and just worry about assembling bows and promoting his product. What REALLY worries me is the amount of time he's spent NOT sending bows out the door. No bows=no revenue. You can only keep going so long like that.

I think the real issue with AE is Joe hyped up his bow, (which is indeed the Bugatti of lever bows) and then never went into full production. He honestly shouldn't have even mentioned the bow until he had the bugs worked out, and a finished production model in his hands. All it did was get everyone excited and wanting one even though only a few were being produced every year. Combine that with no tangible lead time on the product, an eternally long wait list, and a company that won't let you pre-pay for your bow because it's not guaranteed they'll even produce it....that's gonna turn off a lot of guys...

If I come off as an ass I apologize, it's not my intention with this post. I truly feel AE is the best lever bow out there, but I think Joe went about this totally the wrong way, and continues to veer off path (an example is the anodizing-source it out!) instead of spitting out bows. I truly hope he succeeds in this venture, but now that Oneida has REALLY deep pockets, and there's decent quality alternative brands hitting the market (finally!) I can see him getting swallowed up and swept aside in the hustle.

I hope that never happens, because Joe deserves better.

Honestly, I initially asked because I don't know as much as a lot of other people on this site. Now, it seems rather odd that it's taken more than my initial post to get people to try and formulate a valid answer for the wait period that doesn't include "i like it because i like it" or "Joe is a real nice guy". I don't think anyone was telling someone how to run their business. My questions were pretty simple and I can't seem to get anyone to tell me what makes the bow worth waiting 4 years for. Honestly, I initially asked because I don't know as much as a lot of other people on this site. Now, it seems rather odd that it's taken more than my initial post to get people to try and formulate a valid answer for the wait period that doesn't include "i like it because i like it" or "Joe is a real nice guy". Tell you it short, which is good for me.
Then I added this above.
Tell you the bows I had and got to shoot a AE years ago!

Say you get a skinning knife from a huge sporting goods store, relatively cheap and decent for what it costs, you kill a few deer and skin them with it and say this is a pretty good knife but I'd like something nicer, so you do your research and finally decide on what style blade you want. You're dead set on getting a custom knife so you look around at knives from several different knife makers, and finally decide that option B far surpasses options A and C so you decide to purchase it, and knife maker B has a long waiting list but you dont care because it's the knife that is perfect, TO YOU.
Everything about this sport is personal preference, whether you prefer to fish fresh or salt water, whether you prefer a boat or from the shore, whether you prefer a kicker troller or fan, whether led or hps, elevated or flush deck, retriever or spinner, or what kind/make/model bow you shoot.
Aside from breaking the law theres no wrong or right way to go about bowfishing, as long as you're doing what you like how you prefer to do it.
Theres as many reasons for owning an AE bow as there are for not owning one, whether you like how small the bows are or hate how small they are, like or hate how they look, how they feel or how they shoot. Everyone has an opinion and no one's opinion is wrong, just different.

They're not lying when they say he's a good dude. I've have a few long phone conversations with him and he's awesome. He's doing it his way weather we like it or not. I did not have the patience to wait and bought a Black Eagle.

Everybody who has one absolutely loves them. I'm not talking about casual lever bow fans, these are hardcore bowfisherman that sing their praises.

I guess I don't understand. To me owning a bow is all about choices. You buy what you want and what suits your needs. If an AE is what you want then you wait for it to become available and pay the price. It's really no different than buying a car or truck. If you have the means you buy higher end items that are built specifically for you. Say you buy a Mathews, there are many different models and different options. You buy what suits you and if it's not available over the counter which is often the case with anything "canned" you either modify it yourself to your needs or you have it made to your specifications. It's like what was mentioned with hot rods. Not everyone has the means, time or tooling, etc. to do the work to get what they want so they farm it out or buy it from a reputable source.

Right, but im simply wondering what AE does that people are attracted to. The bugatti analogy was weak.

Forget about justifying the wait time. I simply want to know, are they shorter, lighter, smoother, do they use different compounds or limbs that are appealing to some people. Are some parts built stronger, or are they advanced in some way, etc. Really just trying to learn about the bows. What is appealing about AE to you? Im really not bagging on AE, I want to know what stands out as a reason for buying one.

They are a bit shorter than an Osprey or a Black Eagle. They are built to YOUR SPECS and that why people desire one. It's custom for you and you alone. Painted or dipped just how you want it. If I recall it actually makes a few more FPS than an Oneida at the same draw weight.

That's it man, it's been said, let it sink in and for the love of the gods please don't ask that same question again.

People like custom $hit and are willing to wait for it.
