I just got a 3500 watt running, 30 amp, champion generator for Christmas. the generator has 3 120v plug ins. I am going to use it for bow fishing, and want to know if I should go with halogens or LED. I live in Nebraska and most waters I am going to bow fish are going to be murky, so I would think I would want to use halogens. But I want at least seven lights on my boat. For 7 halogens, that would be (if I am doing the correct math formula) 3500 watts and 29.16 Amp. Would that be running my generator to hard? Would I need to divide them up on different cords and pug ins? Also, I heard halogens attract bugs that it makes it miserable, is that true? If I go with LED's, I would use 8-10, 27 watt 4 inch spot lights. If you type '27 watt led bow fishing lights' on YouTube, a guy has 8 of them on his pontoon and they seem pretty bright. I cannot afford (because I am about to start college next fall) $100.00 LED per pop. Please let me know which ones I should pick. If it helps, I am on a 1648 Jon boat with a 12inch raised deck. Thanks!!!

If you go with Led, look on Amazon for the Tuff Led lights. They are around $25 per 27w light .

If you go with led lights I recommend a deep cycle battery instead of a generator. It's much quieter and you don't have to worry about buying gas.

I was thinking about 300 watt halos, but I seriously can't find them any where. As if they don't make them anymore. Do you know of a website that sells them? Thanks for all the responses. And does some one know of a website that sells 150 HPS that with HPF Ballast??

i know you said you wanted halo's or Led but just speaking from experiance I think you would really like 150w HPS with caps... you will outshine 7 halo's with just 4 hps... you could run 6 of these hps and that genny would just idel along and you would have to fill her up every few trips...

Wonderful. I found 150w hps hpf for $59. I think I will order 6. Last question, I saw a 50w WARM WHITE led for $35. Do the warm white leds shine through murky water well? I know hps are my best bet, and I will most likely go with hps, but I would like to know if warm white would do the trick before I make my final decision.

As far as LED's, yes, the warm white will penetrate better than the cool white. Just keep in mind that it will take "3" 50W LED's to get the same amount of light that "1" 150W HPS will give you

We ran (6) 500 watt Halogens on our Champion 3500/4000 watt gennie before we switched to 50 watt LED to be able to run converters to keep troller batteries up. Would run (6) 500 watt with (2) off front and (2) off each side. We now run (12) 50 watt with a Honda Gennie. Would look at long term down road which way you want to go with your setup but for $300 you can go champion and halos and be fishing

I've got the exact same generator. I've had it for two years. Never gives me a minutes trouble. You need to change the oil after about three or four hours the first time you use it. My kept dying after the first trip and then I changed the oil and haven't hand any prob since then.
I run six halos from Lowes. 500w. In my opinion unless you are going "pro", it is the only way to go. When one breaks or if you need to replace one just go pick you up another one for $12. They are great in all water colors. We shoot KY Lake and the back waters. Sometimes muddy and sometimes clear. Kill a ton of fish. That's my two cents.

I run 7 300w Halo's and for what they are they work just fine. Are they HPS lights no, but you can shoot plenty of fish under them.

I just looked on Google and e-conolight sells 300w Halo fixtures for $9.40 a piece.
