Always shot rolling needles in the hot summer. Never found them spawning.. never really looked I guess. Is their spawn moon related or water temp related? When is it typically? Do they head for the back waters, open water, rocky banks, or spillways/swift water, etc?

I want to be there this year when the big females show and I don't want to be late!

Thanks!

I dont know a whole lot but i'll throw ya a bone buddy! Instead of meaningless, horse chit, post-count padding answers. haha

The needle spawn happens diff times in diff regions, and even slightly diff times in the same region. In Oklahoma the needle spawn in the lakes usually happens anywhere from the middle of May to the first couple weeks of June. I couldnt speak for when they spawn in the rivers though. They seem to hit rocky places near semi-deep water and other places that their eggs have stuff to stick to. They dont just stick on the "deep end" or the "shallow end" that i have noticed. They are kind of all over, you just gotta look. I bet they spawn pretty close to the same time there in Alabama, maybe a little sooner. Hope this helps

Thanks for clearing it up. Lets see if i got this.

The spawn different times in different regions and different times in the same region but May and June on the lakes in some region but may spawn at a different time in that region?
They like rocky spots and vegitation spots bout not in the deep end or in the shallow end. basically you just have to go look for them all over! LOL!

I think I have it now! thanks for clearing it up for us!

Okie must be in Politics, if not then he should look into it. That is the perfect "Congress" answer. :tu:

Well pardon me for not STATING that they only do one thing in one place at one time. The reason i said all that is b/c i have shot them on the "deep" or "dam" end of a lake on rocky spots, as well as on the "shallow" side of the same lake, both spawning.

And its not like every gar in the state is gonna start spawning on the same day! I have seen them spawn heavy the 3rd week of may, and other years they dont spawn until more like the 1st or 2nd week of June.

At least a 3 week bracket of time when they spawn in MY region is better than a bunch of chit answers.

I could have worded the first sentence better but NO i'm not in politics. What i meant was that diff lakes and rivers will start the needle spawn at diff times in the SAME region.

And i'm also curious to hear the Garguys take on this. When is the EXACT time ALL the needles spawn down there on the Trinity?
