On a serious note y'all got me curious on this new alloy. I'm just wondering if the previous generation 211's will be able to use it. I've never tried 5000 series wire, but I do remember when Payphone was having fits with his welder using it.

As am I, I purchased mine in 2009. I don't do much aluminum work at home, usually use the 480v Cobra at work, but it's always nice to have the option.

Where's the cheapest place to buy the 211 with the 150 gun?
Most Miller welding dealers are "price" protected and all pretty much have same set prices, mine was $1,059 with $100 rebate with build with blue program, then got extra rebates with spool gun and other Miller accessories....my dealer told me that was set on Miller prices, but then threw in pair welding gloves and jacket, stainless brush for aluminum, and couple other small things, but got the cart, spool gun, (3) kinds of gas for steel, stainless and aluminum (I had bottles that exchanged out) (2) welding helmets/shields, pair of cheater lenses, wire for all (3) types and extra consumables..

With all the welders and fabricators here im suprised i havnt ONCE yet read the word "Fronius". If you want the best, you need to get a Fronius TPS270i or TPS320i with a push-pull gun. Spool gun will do it, but i hate changing spools that often lol. But in all seriousness for a more reasonably priced machine, a Miller 212 or 252 will more than do it. 4943 series filler should be ample. Closest you can get to the 5000 series fillers and it lays like 4043. Butter. Buddys pontoon factory went to the 4943 filler for all TIG and most MIG applications and its ridiculous how great it lays. Ill post a couple pics of 4943 TIG beads if i can find em.

A quick MIG weld I did with 4943 to show bob and payphone how it looked. Metal wasn't cleaned at all. I love the 4943 but it doesn't like to be pulsed. And I like running pulse, so I haven't used it a whole lot lately. The weld could have been a tad hotter but u get the idea
Hobart actually has quite a few new alloys

I'm real close to ordering a Miller 211. need it for general farm repairs and I also want to teach myself to weld aluminum. I understand that the 150 spoolgun is much better than the 100 and thats the way I'm headed. However, what tips are recommended to order with the 211? On www.bakersgas.com it gives three options .023, .030, or .035. Thanks

Ive always used .030 wire, mainly because it seems to be the most commonly available and most popular. It may be all in my head, but I think I have less burnt up tips with a .035 tip and .030 wire. Its easy enough to swap out tip sizes though. Pick a .035 tip and you wont go wrong.

Get all those holes filled? :pop:
Not quite. The front 1/3 of the boat is done, but the floor was stupid hard to peel up because I siliconed it in so good. I got the front part pulled up then called it a night.

The next day I decided to get the back part done, but in order to do it right I had to pull the battery box and old gas tank. I had to modify the original plastic tank so much I said 'Why the hell not just build a metal tank and be done with it?' So I did. :D

Now the tank is complete, and Ill have the rest of these holes done today and tomorrow. Re-assemble entire boat, then reach warp speed. I hope.
