Whats the deal with these PVC bows. Seems stupid but I was just wondering if there is something cool about them that I am missing. Please enlighten me or at least tell me if I am correct on the "stupid" part.
Basically the same thing here... my fiberglass rod I beleive is 3/8 .. it is a fence post from the TSC I use wd40 for lube instead of anti sieze (not as messy) and i "shim" with duct tape ... because duct tape makes the world a better place! .. these are fun hard hitting little bows for cheap ... and like gary here says ... if you have the tools .. its pretty easy to do!I took my table saw and ripped the full lenght of a piece of 1/2" sch 40, lubed it up with anti sieze and beat it into a equal lenght of 3/4" sch 40. Inserted a 1/4 fiberglass rod "shimmed" with electrical tape inside the 1/2" pipe. Cut a "knock" in the ends of the bow staff and string her up!
It's pretty easy if you have the tools
I cut my bows down to 52 inches and use a 48 inch fence post from the tractor supply store... any farm store should have a fiberglass fence post for like a buck or 2where did you get the 3/8 rods skippy? i couldnt find them anywhere around modesto!
with my 1/4" rod inseteded into the double wall PVC I'm pulling around 45 lbs, which is equivilent to setting my PSE Rally at around 28-30. I came to this conclusion based on penetration tests since i do not own a crono. my PSE Kingfisher is a 40lb and it lunches arrows much quicker than the 45lb pvc bow!
that being said, im going to be making up 2 complete PVC bow fishing setups for my buddies to use, because they suck and cant afford or have no desire to purchase their own gear!
52 inch pipe .. 48 inch rod ... and a 46-47 inch recurve string from your local archery shop or a sweet site sponsor on here!what is pipe and fiberglass rod length, bow string length/source? have used muzzy line for string and it wears ou pretty quick.
I'm going to make one this lenght, a 60" longbow isnt fishing friendly!52 inch pipe .. 48 inch rod ... and a 46-47 inch recurve string from your local archery shop or a sweet site sponsor on here!
Unless you have monkey arms like me. I have no choice haha. A 52" bow does not bend to a 31" draw very easily. I know from experience and a sore shoulder after hitting over 70lbs and still having another inch or 2 to go!I'm going to make one this lenght, a 60" longbow isnt fishing friendly!
